Danae_Tsabouraki

Danae Tsabouraki, Project Coordinator

Danae Tsabouraki holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Master’s degree in Sociology of Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA), as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). She has been practicing law since 2012, mainly in the fields of civil and corporate law (intellectual property, data protection, contracts, competition law, etc.). Danae has been working at the ATC Innovation Lab since 2011 as Junior Researcher and since 2018 as Project Manager in EU R&D funded projects, with a focus on the media sector and disinformation. She is currently involved among others in the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) as operations consultant.

Nick_Papapolizos

Nick Papapolizos, Project Manager

Nikos Papapolizos is Project Manager at the ATC Innovation Lab. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Government & Politics and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Essex, UK. He has worked for over 15 years as Project Manager and Content Manager of web portals and collaborated with various companies as social media consultant and community manager. At ATC he is involved in online research projects and in activities related to content and web management.

Dimitris Varsamis, AI Engineer

Dimitris Varsamis is a Machine Learning Engineer at ATC’s Innovation Lab department. He holds a BSc in Physics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MSc in Information and Communication Technology. Since joining in October 2023, Dimitris has actively contributed to cutting-edge research projects, leveraging his skills in data science and AI development. Prior to ATC, he served as a Machine Learning Engineer at EY’s Artificial Intelligence Lab, where he honed his abilities in developing machine learning models and enhancing Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems. Dimitris’s passion lies in exploring the intersection of NLP and Large Language Models (LLM), making him an asset in the field of AI research.

Nikolaos Monios, Software Developer

Nikolaos Monios received his B.Sc. degree in Automation Engineering from ATEI of Thessaloniki in 2012, and his M.Sc. degree in Internetworked Electronic Systems from University of West Attica in 2018 with distinction. He has been a PhD student in University of West Attica since 2020, focusing in Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, IoT, and Smart Cities. His professional career started in 2015 where he began working as a Software Engineer in various EU R&D projects (Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe) around IoT, Autonomous Vehicles, Smart Cities, and Smart Industry topics. Since then he has participated in more than 15 EU projects and authored or co-authored more than 7 articles.

Sergio Hernández (assessor)

Hernández is a member of the EFE Verifica team that defines user needs and requirements of the MuseAI tool and will evaluate the developed solution. Head of EFE Verifica, Hernández is a journalist with experience in the press, radio, television and the Internet. He joined EFE in 2002 in the Balearic Islands bureau, where he worked until 2007. From 2013 to 2020, he was part of the radio team (EFE Radio). Hernández holds a degree in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid, where he obtained a postgraduate degree as a University Expert in Communication and Art. He has also studied Cinematography at the Instituto del Cine Madrid and the Mallorca Film Academy.

Raquel_Godos

Raquel Godos (assessor)

Godos is a journalist specializing in fact-checking at EFE Verifica. She worked as deputy editorial director of the EFE for the Americas in Bogotá and was a correspondent in Washington for eight years. She holds a degree in Journalism from the Carlos III University of Madrid. Godos has been awarded scholarships by the International Women Media Foundation (IWMF) and the Kiplinger Program in Journalism and Public Affairs at Ohio University. She has collaborated with international media such as CNN and Al Jazeera.

Jorge_Ocaña

Jorge Ocaña (assessor)

Ocaña also works as a journalist specializing in fact-checking at EFE Verifica since 2021. In 2019, he started as an intern at EFE, thanks to training in the International department, and then moved to the Brussels bureau. With a degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication from Carlos III University, he has also worked in television and digital media.

Alejandro_Martin

Alejandro Martín
(PI)

Dr. Alejandro Martín is Associate Professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. His main research interests are Deep Learning, Cybersecurity, and Natural Language Processing. He has been visiting researcher at the University of Kent and the University of Córdoba. Besides has participated in an important number of international conferences as a reviewer and organizer, as a reviewer and Guest Editor in international journals, and in a large number of research projects. He is the PI of different national and international projects focused on the application AI to detect and track misinformation in social networks.
David_Camacho

David Camacho (Research coordinator)

Dr. David Camacho is currently a Full Professor at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and the Head of the Applied Intelligence & Data Analysis group. He received a Ph.D. with honors in Computer Science from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2001. He has published more than 350 journals, books, and conference papers. His expertise comprises: Big Data; Machine Learning: Clustering, Hidden Markov Models, Classification and Deep Learning; Computational Intelligence: Evolutionary computation, Swarm Intelligence; Pattern and Process modeling and mining; Graph Computing and Social Mining, and Data Analysis for complex industrial applications for companies, such as: Airbus Defence & Space, Codice Technologies, ImpactWare, or Jobssy S.L among others.
Javier_Huertas

Javier Huertas (Researcher)

Javier Huertas-Tato is a PhD Assistant Professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid within the Computer Systems Department. His body of work consists of deep learning methods and applications where he publishes regularly on peer review journals and international conferences. Specializing in areas such as Natural language processing, Transformers and their application to disinformation, hate speech and other content analysis tasks on social media. His current interests are authorship attribution, natural language inference and claim detection/check-worthiness. The usage of deep learning natural langue processing is invaluable to the project for the development of claim detection and claim matching tasks.

Leo_Porte

Léo Porte (Researcher)

Léo Porte is a Data Science student at the Sorbonne University and currently in a master thesis at the Technical University of Madrid. He is working on the claim detection part of the project, with a focus on the dataset construction and research of proficient models for this task.
